Rejected Clips

These are my rejected photos, I have selected certain clips as they did not fit the codes and conventions of good video clips for a scripted reality trailer. I have used 'Made in chelsea' as my plan and to use certain features they use in trailers such as; the background music, extreme close ups to exaggerate emotions and on screen text linking to the storyline. I have also made my trailer as realistic as possible by using a institutional title card at the start, I have used one from E4 as 'Made in Chelsea' is also featured on E4, linking to my theme and plan.

Ancillary planning

These are the images we have selected from other magazines and from the stars off scriped reality tv shows to influence our planning and help guide us to create a good, realistic ancillary.

This is a photo of a flat plan we have created of the layout for the ancillary and shows where the conventions; Masthead, main star image, heading, subheading, strapline, barcode, date, issue, ect. of a magazine front cover and where they would be placed.

This is some of the storylines we came up with that would be a good storyline for the front cover of our ancillary. We have come up with interesting poses which link in with the different storylines featured.

Here we have come up with different names we could use to call our Magazine, we have used plans; 'Fabulous magazine' to influence our design as we think their layout and style would suit our theme very well. We also used brain storms to figure out what colour scheme to use, who to feature on the front cover and what features it should include.

Hollyoaks Soap Magazine Front Cover

This is my soap magazine front cover for Hollyoaks. I have used a close up image of 'Mercedies' featured at the front to show her scared facial expression. A medium close up of 'paul' is featured slightly stood behind mercedies with his hand on her impling to the audience that he is theone in control and relating to the story line. for the heading i chose to use the words 'operation stalker' ironicly linking to paul; 'opereation' as he is a doctor and also giving away part of the story line; 'stalker'. I have also use a rhetorical question as the strapline 'is jacqui too late!?' to draw in the readers and grab their attention. Small images in boxes are features to link to other made up tv shows to feature the codes and conventions of other soap magazines.

Hollyoaks trailer analysis

opening shot - close up of paul and mercedies
paul: 'nothing you can do can push me away' his face dominates the framing and is in focus, his eyes are looking at mercedies, implying that he is dominating and the one in control
mercedies face is unfocused and is only shown in 30% of the framing, she is looking down, suggesting she is worried and scared, her hair is covering one side of her face, implying she is hiding from paul beacuse she is scared
location- there is a photo in the background, caual clothes are worn and there is light coming in though the window which tells the audience they are in a house / flat.
lighting- pauls face is significantly darker lighting than mercedies implying she is the damsel in distress and he is the dangerous one.

mercedies: 'ive never seen a man so obsessed' - proving herself right in the first shot
2 shot, establishing medium close up of mercedies and jacui. mercedies is in focus, implying she is centre of attention and telling the audience that the story line is about her.
jacui is blured and stood behind mercedies, implying that she is behind mercedis all the way and has her back. jacui is looking down, implying she is thinking and feels empathy for mercedies.
the expression on mercedies face tells the audience that she is upset and worried
location- there are tiles and cuboards featued which tell the audience that they are in the kitchen.
lighting- the lighting is more sofer and mellow that the first shot, used at a metaphor of mercedies feelings contrasted with the first shot, the mellow lighting telling the audience that it is artificial light and therefore is night time, implying that it would be dangerous to go outside on your own at night.

Paul is blured and only features in 20% on the framing, implying he is spying on mercedies and doesnt want to be seen.
mercedies and ryely are stood close together implying the comfort shared, mercedies has her arm on ryelys with tells the audience that she feels safe and secure when with ryely.
lighting- the lighting near pauls face is dark and gloomy, suggesting he is dangerous and up to no good. the lighting featured near mercedies and ryely is daylight which also suggests they are safe and are outside.

lighting- artificial light is used which shows they are indoors and there is a stressed atmosphere
location- coffee and tea machines are features with customers, implying they are in a cafe

jacui is crawling on the floor
location- plants, clock, desk, blinds are featured showing she is in a office

jacui's hand is taking something out of a office draw, the draw shot also features doctors letters, letting the audience know it is pauls office.

jacui: 'gasps' her reaction suggests there is something dangerous and bad about paul and she is shocked and concerned

p.o.v shot is shown of mercedies looking at her phone '5 missed calls' off jacui, implying to the audience that she is not safe and jacui is seriously concerned and needs to tell mercedies something ergently

2 shot of paul and mercedies, paul is holding mercedies head and his head is raised above hers showing his dominance and control. his eyes are looking down on hers, he is features 80% in the framing and is showing both his eyes, nose and mouth which implies he is in controll.
mercedies whole face is not shown and her head is being held which shows her vounrability and low status.

jacui: 'its mercy she is in danger' on the phone, jacui is running in a hospital (green walls, blue floor, wooden banister, nurse in the background) she is in a panic and is perhaps running to mercedies from pauls office because he is dangerous

jacui is running to mercedies flat (plant, photo frame) she is in a rush to help to save her.

ends- to get the audience to want to see what happens next and leaves them intreuged.

this is my first draft of my hollyoaks trailer, i used twitter to send it to my teacher to get feedback, and then from my feedback i had to lower the sounds and it was too high and hard to tell what the characters were saying.
